Position Summary

Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging, Inc. produces light-weight, multiwall and complimentary specialty kraft papers for an established domestic and global customer base. The company also produces containerboard and corrugated boxes. Longview operates a pulp and paper mill at Longview, Wash., and a network of seven converting plants in the western United States.

 

Our pulp and paper mill is strategically located in Longview, Wash., close to several export ports and with ready access to Interstate 5, two rail lines and on-site barge traffic. Our facilities include one of the highest-capacity and most diverse paper mills in North America, and a network of well-equipped corrugated container plants in four Western states. We manufacture more than 70 grades of kraft paper and containerboard, and supply a broad range of corrugated packaging and solid fibre slip sheets. We supply our products to 35 countries worldwide.

We are currently seeking a Manager of Compensation & Benefits
at our corporate headquarters in Longview, WA.

 


Primary Purpose:

The Manager of Compensation & Benefits is responsible for directing and performing the strategic planning, design, regulatory compliance, communication, policy development and administration of all corporate-wide employee compensation and benefits programs consistent with the Longview’s employee rewards objectives.

 
Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, manage, and evaluate organizational total compensation and benefits philosophies and strategies with a linkage to organizations objectives in the short and long term.
  • Provide consultative technical expertise and guidance regarding compensation and benefits matters to executives, managers, and human resources.
  • Manages the preparation and distribution of the organization’s hourly, salaried and retirement payrolls for multiple locations.  Oversees the maintenance of earnings and deduction records.   Ensures that all federal, state and local taxes, Social Security contributions, contributions to employee benefit programs, and other deductions are withheld from individual paychecks.  Directs the preparation and filing of required reports and/or payments to government agencies, insurance carriers, other organizations and individual employees. 
  • Recommends changes in methods or procedures to improve the efficiency of the payroll, benefits and compensation function.
  • Work with management, legal, outside consultants and governmental agencies to insure compliance regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate policies, practices, and guidelines to all levels of the Company.
  • In partnership with human resources team, monitor and analyze trends and issues related to compensation and benefits within the Company and external market, such as turnover, recruitment, government regulations, market data/surveys, competitive practices, etc. to forecast the impact on the Company and implement initiatives to proactively respond.
  • Compensation departmental responsibilities include overseeing job evaluation, salary surveys, salary structures, salary budgets, merit and other salary increases, incentive plans and working in partnership with other members of the HR team to develop and prepare policies and procedures to insure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation.
  • Benefit departmental responsibilities include the administration of health benefits, retirement plans, disability benefits and the employee assistance program.  Develop and implement new benefits and health/wellness programs and participate in negotiation of contracts and terms with vendors.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field. Masters degree and one or more HR certifications (e.g. CCP, GPHR, CEBS) preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years progressively responsible HR experience with at least 5 years managing compensation and benefits  administration.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Must have experience leading compensation and benefits design changes.
  • Knowledgeable about all applicable HR laws
  • Ability to develop rapport/credibility with diverse groups, must be comfortable interacting with senior management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: general ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
